Born on August 7, 1969 in Taipei, Taiwan, Linda is the oldest of 4 girls born to Sophie and Russell Rekas. Her father was a career Navy man serving on nuclear submarines. They were stationed in Hawaii for a few years until her father moved the family back to his hometown of Coventry, Rhode Island. Linda went to Blackrock Elementary School, Coventry Junior High School and graduated from Coventry High School in 1987. She then attended Providence College and Boston University School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and before the United States District Courts for the Districts of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Once she started practicing law, Linda was always giving of her time and served as a mentor to young lawyers, law students and college students considering a career in law. She served as chairperson of the New Lawyers’ Committee of the Rhode Island Bar Association for many years and continues to advise and mentor young lawyers and minority lawyers. She is President-Elect of the Rhode Island Bar Association and will begin serving as President on July 1, 2017. She is also a Rhode Island Bar Foundation Fellow and a New England Bar Association Board member.
She is the Assistant Vice President of Business Development and Counsel in the Rhode Island office of the Fidelity National Title Group which includes Chicago Title, Commonwealth Land Title and Fidelity National Title Insurance Company. She is also a principal at the firm of Linda Rekas Sloan, LLC, concentrating her practice in the area of receiverships and serving on the panel of state court-appointed receivers.
Linda taught as an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University School of Law and at Providence College. She has been a member of the Pawtuxet Valley Rotary Club since 1999 and served as a board member on many other non-profit organizations such as Camp E Hun Tee, Coventry Public Library Board, Louttit Library Board and the Thurgood Marshall Law Society. She is also currently serving an elected office as a West Greenwich Town Council member.
