Ken Grady’s Bio

After attending Coventry Public Schools from the 2nd grade, Ken Grady graduated from
Coventry High School in 1965. At CHS, he was on the newspaper staff of The Entry and
participated in the startup of a local band that traveled around New England. During his high
school years, Math teacher Mr. Bertani told Ken that he should go into broadcasting and this
thought stayed with him for the next few years. After graduation, Ken attended URI and
graduated in 1969 and was hired to teach at CHS. His teaching career was interrupted, almost
immediately, by the draft and his military service took him to American Forces Radio and
Television Service in South Korea where he served for 2 years. Upon his return to teaching at
CHS in 1971, Ken taught English, Journalism, and Mass Communications and served as advisor
to the school newspaper, The Entry.

Ken brought his broadcasting experience back to CHS, and, working with a group of dedicated
students, signed WCVY on the air in 1978. Many students who worked at WCVY went on to
careers in radio and television. Ken shared his music experiences with The Roadentz, a band
started by a group of students in the 1980’s who are still singing and playing today. Ken is a
member of the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians,
and that experience was shared with The Mysterians, a group of students who built and
performed their own illusions.

After retiring from teaching in 1997, Ken worked at Channel 6 in Providence for 10 years. In
2001, he and his wife, Jean, began producing and hosting a Gospel Music TV show, Gospel
Music Today, which is aired weekly on WATC TV57 in Atlanta and syndicated to 16 other
stations across the country.

Ken is still in contact with many former students and he is honored to be remembered as a
teacher and a friend.
