Frank M. Brown Jr. graduated from Coventry High School in June of 1978. He married his high school sweetheart in 1981 and he and his wife have two daughters and one grandson.
Frank joined Hopkins Hill Fire Department in April of 1976. While serving many years as a volunteer firefighter with the department, he held numerous leadership positions including Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Deputy Chief and Deputy Chief. In September, 1988, Frank was enrolled in the Providence Fire Academy and then in October, 1988 he was appointed a career firefighter with the North Kingstown Fire Department. After several years in this position, he was promoted to a part time Fire Chief’s position at Hopkins Hill Fire Department in March,1993. Frank also served concurrently as a Lieutenant on the North Kingstown Fire Department. In May, 2002, Frank was then appointed as the first full-time Fire Chief of the Hopkins Hill Fire Department. Eight years later, he became Director of Communications of the Coventry Fire Alarm Dispatch in May of 2010 and August of 2012 became Deputy Director of the Coventry Emergency Management Agency.
Elected as Vice Chairman of the Rhode Island Hazardous Material Decontamination Workgroup in 2014, he helped this group to oversee 5 Regional Hazmat Teams and 4 Regional Decon Teams that respond to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Incidents. In June of 2017, Frank was appointed as Fire Chief of Central Coventry Fire District followed by his election as President of the RI Association of Fire Chiefs in January, 2018. In addition to all his career accomplishments, Frank also lead the Coventry Decontamination Team in Louisiana to aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. His team assisted in the recovery of 21 victims and decontaminated 103 personnel.
Frank has been active with the Coventry Human Services “Tis The Season” Firefighter’s Boot Drive since its inception. Money raised provides assistance to local families in need. For the last 17 years he has organized family and friends to participate and raise money to support Special Olympics of Rhode Island in the Annual Penguin Plunge held on January 1st of each year. In 2008 he served has a Penguin Excelsior to lead 700 people into the freezing waters of Narragansett Bay.
As of 2018, Frank serves the citizens of Coventry as Fire Chief of the Hopkins Hill and Central Coventry Fire Departments, Director of Communications of Coventry Fire Alarm and as Deputy Director of the Coventry Emergency Management Agency.
