Julie Lima Boyle Bio

Julie Lima Boyle is an accomplished teacher and educational leader who has influenced the lives of many and who has brought honor to Coventry High School.  She serves as an example of the endless possibilities available to CHS students.  Julie joined the faculty at CHS in the fall of 1999 and became English Department chairperson in 2007.  In 2012, she was chosen as Rhode Island Teacher of the Year, the first educator from Coventry to be so honored, in recognition of her exceptional passion for teaching English and sustained dedication to the students and educators of Coventry.

Humbled to represent hard working teachers and students across the state of RI as Teacher of the Year, Julie met with President Barack Obama at the Whitehouse, with state and national legislators, and with corporate leaders such as Bill Gates to advocate for needed resources and supports to increase student achievement levels.   Additionally, in 2014, Julie was chosen to serve as an educational ambassador for the United States on a delegation to Shanghai and Shenzhen, China.  There she presented large-scale workshops for Chinese teachers on democratic educational practices.  Her advocacy work and commitment to professional development opportunities for teachers continues to mark her as an educational leader at local, state, and national levels.

A 1990 CHS graduate, Julie feels tremendous gratitude for the education she received in the Coventry Public School system.  Her teachers and beloved school leaders such as James DiPrete were instrumental in preparing her well for subsequent studies to earn a B.A. in English at Rhode Island College in 1994, teaching certification from Providence College in 1999, and an M.A. in English from Rhode Island College in 2006.  Her adopted motto of “Ancora imparo” which means “I am still learning” is on a bracelet she often wears in the classroom.  Julie is a lifelong learner who loves reading and writing as well as travel, especially with her husband Shawn.  She will continue to inspire others through her experiences and through her teaching at CHS
